cognitive dissonance - poem

sometimes I'm awesome, sometimes I'm not
sometime's I'm an ice queen, sometimes I'm hot
sometimes I appreciate some space and some quiet,
whereas other times I want to throw an effing riot

sometimes I think I should just stop my musing
because poetic artistic crap can be really confusing.

Autumn - poem

I could feel your breath
haunting my skin
how daring of you to emerge today,
in light that soothes and tells me stories of days that will trump the night and all of its
darkness

sweet darkness--I remember, how it waned and flickered to the moonlight and seduced you and I into its paradoxical
lively death
killing the light seemingly on the surface then waiting as I  mourned the extinction of all warmth inside, forgetting what it's like
to feel the sunlight I stole from yesterday

arrested in the future for my past's missteps in dancing with you

you, who flashed your colours across every damn piece of my world's canvas, promising beauty and love and warmth and reflected light from all of your surfaces
but you rusted and shriveled up
you misstepped
allowing the icy blankets to take over and wipe out everything I held dear just moments before in the sun

Night paled in comparison to the work you did yourself and claimed all the glory in my dedication to your illusion of change

I fought you
I stepped aside
I denied the darkness its pull and pushed so Light could take over, even in the Moon's dominion

it was beautiful
I felt beautiful
I felt free
free to forget to feel
something until something emptied into seconds ticking away

until you became mass enough to touch me and push back the decay, the change, the colours that warn of the impending frigid void

I could feel your breath today
reminding me of whose music moves me
blindly through the days into nights and tomorrows
breathing you in
but how do I stop my feet and hold my breath for too long without stumbling
how do I stand still, with your seductive destructive promises of feeling beauty in dying green, watching as fire and rust and illusory lovely landscapes distract me, dizzying me until you win, able to stop the music

until you sigh

and wait for me to Fall

Interrogation - poem

What if I'm standing at the edge of the world
would anyone really care, or go about life saying
"there she goes again"

There I go, saying "what if," my trusty catch-phrase of temporary amnesia
of the faith I claim to carry close to my
murmuring heart

Who wants to read, consume, reorganize these words into some
sense
of what they think it means to them?

Does it matter what it means to me? Does this typing, thinking, feeling, seething mass of grey matter-driven flesh mean something profound,
or is this simply posturing in the pseudo-poetic universe?

What if this is all I have left

Does grey turn to nothing when drained of purpose?

If not one more drop of creativity trickles onto the pages of my e-canvas, then
what point remains in neurons zapping each other anymore?
If my words are silenced, when attempting to describe the wounds inflicted on my
psyche and soul,
what point remains in speaking?

When would it be noted that I no longer say anything of value,
or worse,

when no words come at all?

How will someone know when my thoughts simply sublimate instead of pouring out of these tired lips, and

why not even sparks light the way throughout my brain?

What if I'm standing with the world in my fingertips, ready to drop it, along with the purposeful words tomorrow could bring?

There I go again.

composition - poem

rising to the brim--maybe it's there already,
sloshing back and forth from the edge
waiting, craving release but uncertain of how,
from amnesia of overwhelm, forgotten faculties,
forgotten its form and purpose to flow when frozen in
moments
or moment, or then, here, tomorrow,
now

unable to recall knowing
how to fall
into acceptance of its composition, its liquid state of alkaline truth
instead, it yearns to burst through and over--
instead, it bubbles, and threatens sublimation

how can it create,
when, unwilling to ebb through
the darkness of resolve, it

destroys, waiting, blinded by white denial,
killing tomorrow's birth with its poison

decaying the prism of choices--
left only with sobering decisive

indecision

realization

too late and yet

it discovers fiction in the story of inability to make something out of its nothingness, the fiction of its vaporous state as it was but a dream, provoked by yesterday's chemical lies,

the belated truth that its substance has been fluid all along

Seesick - poem

it's coming, swelling, vertigo dancing behind my eyes
tossing my head, rocking my brain until I'm
scared
to stand, to breathe, to be
here at the eye
of the thoughts ebbing to and from my memory, playing out in percussion
against my weary heart,
knocking my rubber legs and stirring my caustic core

shipwrecked limbs, memories, faith, floating on the residue
of today's fears
awoken by the beats, the pounding, terrible music
of the minutes ticking by at tempos too quick for
still water to remain its true self

this is a mashup:
a decrepit concoction of confused imagery
and imaginings
from a place that brews a poisonous elixir,
enticing my ego to jump in--
to see blue when the world is painted gray, black, puce, and pain

can't I smell the noxious gas? the deadly suffocation,
threatening to end it all
promising to stop it

giving into dizzying visions
of what was, is, and may never be
but can never happen
or else I'll take it up, I'll shake hands and that will be
it
the final note, the bridge to no more minutes--
just weightless, poison-less, fearless floating
into the tomorrow I always wanted
but never knew
could be

LOTD Happy Friday peeps!

For today's look, I went off of a look inspired by the lovely Zabrena on http://myeyeshadowconsultant.com/
Her post is based on MAC's Aquadisiac, but I don't have that eyeshadow nor some others she used, so I duped with what I had.  Instead, I used Sleek's Lagoon palette and some other eyeshadows I have kicking around.

Enjoy :)

EOTD Saturday!!

Happy Saturday, friends!

I was working all day, and am shocked that my eye makeup lasted all day! (Thank you, Urban Decay shadows and Nars primer!)  I got compliments on my eye makeup from a few interesting sources today: 2 MAC artists, a lovely friend of mine and her friend!  So, I thought I'd share.

Before I do, I'd like to give a huge nod to Zabrena from myeyeshadowconsultant.com for the inspiration for this look.  She is a gorgeous, kind, innovative, and brilliant woman with a fantastic website for women to get the most out of their makeup collection.  The video I took inspiration from is as follows:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv0HcIrRvPM

I used the Urban Decay Naked palette for this look :)  :
-UD Naked on the crease
-UD Darkhorse on the outer v and last third of lid
-UD Buck on the middle third
-UD Half Baked on the first third
-Blended UD Virgin on the brow bone, into the crease
-UD Smog over the middle part of the lid to blend Half Baked into Darkhorse
-UD Darkhorse on outer third of lower lashline
-UD Half Baked on first 2 thirds of lower lashline
-Cargo black eyeliner
-MAC Extendlash mascara

have a great evening!!

EOTD :) Happy Friday!

Not as happy with today’s eye look, but the idea is what I like lol.
I used:
-MAC Patina (crease)
-Bodyshop Sugar Gaze (inner third of lid)
-Bodyshop Steel My Heart (outer third/outer v)
-MAC Copperplate (middle third of lid)
-MAC Blanc Type (brow/blend)
Then I went in with Patina on the middle of my lid to warm it up a bit. The Bodyshop shadows are powdery and really don’t blend as well as I’d like. So, again, I’m not thrilled with the look, but it’s OK :) .
On my cheeks:
-Patina to contour (weird, I know, but it sort of worked)
-MAC Warm Soul (blush)
Lips:
-MAC Mellowarm (LE) (Frost) –> this is from the Fabulously Festive (Warm) kit a few years back. This lipstick is lovely, and reads more Cremesheen on me than Frost. It’s a bit warm for my liking, but it works with my clothes today.

Happy Friday and Happy Weekend :)

Resurrection (poem)

petals drop, prune my leaves as some are
wilting,
some are dead
strip me here of all my yesterdays
remind me what's inside
I can't smell tomorrow
or is that the sound of decay
cloying like the petals I dreamed of
last night and tomorrow
peel, peel,
stab me with your adrenaline tongue
spark my language-making heart
revive my core to spark these wings to fly
or buds to bloom
or seed to burst
remind me who's still inside
out there tastes so much better than
the view from in here

if I'm under six feet
or over my prime,
still,
I'll learn to fly for you
I'll spread my bloom,
I'll raise my wings
I'll dive from this bed of thorns and death
to the sky I hear when I think of you

strip me bare
I want to breathe
as flower, moth, drawn to your flaming eyes
willing to burn for you
wanting to scald, scream,
smiling, cheeks hurting, arms throbbing from stretching to
grasp today
pluck my stem from the cocoon of dead petals
writhing 'round my frozen limbs
or were those wings?

strip me down
to what I think I knew
the taste of roses, the sound of butterfly flutters
in my stomach and the womb of what I'd
give to you
to remember how
to feel

twin flames--poem

do you remember how
your smile ignited her
and she would burn
brighter
hotter
spreading to blushing cheeks of hungry ones

she challenged them to control her flames
and they would burn for her

no matter how dangerous,
she would wave the red banner
and they would run
to burn with her, and burn through her

until she became small and ashen
and while still waving the red,
they would blow her away, ash by ash

she became lost on the very plains
she used to ignite

she retreated from fatal pursuits, collecting her ashes to
reconstruct a visage of cunning vitality,
frozen in a mask of confidence,
frozen in a mask resembling only you

then, naught more than a matchstick in waiting,
no more ones--only One--came along
He blasted open the tomb she created
and you and she were no longer two

we burned again, but with another,
with the only One who will matter
but somewhere in the flames we lost
the knowledge of how to kindle our flame

when He can see our eternal fire--
ignite it, harness it, and keep it safe,
why can't we do the same?
why can't we use what He sees
and melt she and you into "me"?

do you remember His mercy in breaking us free,
when He and I became We,
lighting each other, igniting each other
two flames burning as One?

storm

relentless: she's a hurricane
certain she doesn't know,
though certainty does little when chaos blots out reason

in the center she's a sage,
but when she spins the rage destroys

left in the trail, trailing behind
stomp in the puddles, splash in the mud
delight in the mess one day,
another drown
silver linings on zero clouds--just the white, fluffy, distant stuff

(sometimes grey)
(then again, usually grey)
(and white is just grey's dream for betterment)

losing the sun, forgetting its warmth, forgotten light in this labyrinth of dust
settling dirt into pores of tired skin, weathered hands, and leaden legs

disjointed thoughts trickling from the eye of rationality
connecting the dots of hail pouring from tear-tired eyes
racing through ash, apathy begging to conquer
resentment's hold on the flailing statue,
bending to the wind,
crumbling in the dark,

crumbled already--
scattered particles
lying comfortably on the aftermath, on yesterday's grave
too weary to fathom "tomorrow",
afraid to go to sleep

The Road to Heaven - poem

At a crossroads with so many paths to choose,
I’m run under where I stand

But wasn’t it Sam who said, it’s not the road to Heaven
that’s paved with good intent?
and yet

I intend to love this Gift
I’m all too blessed to accept
and all too inspired to resist

Still run under where I stand

There’s beauty in standing
even if only to stand for the breath intended
to pass through these lips

Running created the chaos necessary
to test my intention to stand with what
inspired me to search for Heaven
through the path I still need to choose

My legs have lost the will to run
where I stand

My lungs have tired but aspired to learning
how to get to Heaven while standing
with what I’ve been given

Through inhales and exhales and heartbeat percussions
playing out the symphony of Above and Below,
the fork vanishes, transforms
into a response, revealing why
I’ve been running

‘til now

Until I awoke from the dreams of confusion
to the sound reality that
Heaven is in the Gift,
and the Gift is the proof
that Breath exists
to keep us standing for
the choice I made
in you

Alchemy-poem

this one's dedicated to my Scott.

If I could kiss your eyes until you see stars and the skies,
could you paint our tomorrow’s until your brush-hand tires?
I would dance through the breeze for you,

(the one I’d command to caress the skin I crave to
breathe in)

I’d hold your hand, giving it firework-sparks
to ignite the same your touch invokes
in me

Hopefully, and wishfully, and dreamfully then,
you’d be able to paint,

what you want the next day to unfold
and inspire in us what we both dare
to dream

I’d dance
(or pose)
until you can’t escape the vision
of the cloud-canvas overcome by the burn-marks of our
tango:
the capture of our tomorrow
and the lipstick stain from the daring little act
that is no longer just an
if

Diamonds--poem

This one's dedicated to anyone and all of my friends and family members who have ever doubted how truly awesome they are.

There’re diamonds in the sky
they say
for those who are willing to reach for
them with outstretched, driven, strengthy hands
and a crystal reflection in their eyes

“I can’t reach!”
I heard you say,
and you jumped as high as you could (at the time).

My eyes rolled away and my body
followed my train of thought—
“coming aboard?” I asked.

This time, yours rolled. You’re gone, ‘til I find you
rolled up from rolling so much through
the mire
that has dimmed your sight of the diamond sky.

“You can reach!” I raise my voice with
my pointer
to our dreams twinkling high above.
The air vibrates around the sole figure,
the only figure alone with her sky.

“You can reach.” I repeat, in vain,
my breath rippling through the night
caressing the dew of first dawn.
The Moon pulls away, her rays curling upward,
giving way to the Sun and all His enlightenment.

I see you outstretched, glowing from God’s praise
for the creature God made is delighting in
the Sun’s glory.
I should be happy—perhaps I am—but I know
that those diamonds feel farther to you than Mother Moon does
with Father Sun owning the sky.

You seem blind by Him, that brilliant Sun.
You seem blind to seeing how close They are,
those twinkling, inspiring dreams.
You seem blind when you dip your little toes
in Sister Tide, tickling your tootsies with each lap and pull.

I feel blind and dumb, staring at Sister Tide, beyond your feet,
your tools for striding.

Until She winks
using Father Sun’s gifts, and cheekily sends them back
two-fold.

Maybe I’m crazy, and dumber than I thought, but I hear
Mama Moon giggle
as the answer’s revealed.

With a shout and a dance, I disturb my Sisters,
the water and the child of God’s gracious breath.
You look at me with that familiar perplexity, that confusion
twisting your nose into a cute button.

“’Til tonight!” I yelp, like Brother Wolf at his Mother,
and I dance away, prance away, to my box of tricks.
Some call it Pandora’s, for the power it holds—
I call it Ambition, as it leads me to precious, faithful glass—
to glass so crafty, so carefully crafted,
with Sister Tide’s wisdom-filled notion,
of handing back truths to the unbeknownst sender.

My heart beats you to me, dragging your tools,
worn from a day in Father Sun’s rays.
I say no words, just gestures to tell you:
“you can.”

Before those blues roll away from my suggestion,
your lips forming “I can’t” with practised ease,
I grab the glass, covering my face with your own.

“You already have,” I exhale, relieved.

I know what faith is, without seeing what you saw,
as, in the glass,
your eyes twinkled with the diamonds
we’ve both admired
all along.
